Sage Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of 20-Year-Old Marine

Sage, California – A devastating accident occurred in Sage, resulting in the loss of a young Marine’s life. Joshua Crain, a 20-year-old from Camp Pendleton, was identified as the victim of a high-speed, head-on collision with a pickup truck on Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Riverside County Coroner’s Office reported that the incident took place on Sage Road, just north of Red Mountain Road.

According to Officer Mike Lassig, a spokesperson for the CHP, Crain was riding his 2016 BMW S1100 northbound on Sage at a dangerously high speed. Preliminary estimates suggest he was traveling over 90 mph on the two-lane road, making it impossible for him to navigate a curve safely. As a result, Crain lost control, crossing into the opposing southbound lanes.

Tragically, a 49-year-old Hemet man driving a 2011 Nissan Frontier pickup was approaching the curve from the opposite direction at a reasonable speed of 50 mph. The pickup truck collided head-on with Crain’s motorcycle. The pickup driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, thankfully escaped unharmed.

Emergency responders from the county fire department swiftly arrived at the scene within 10 minutes, but Crain was pronounced dead at the location despite their efforts.

This Sage motorcycle crash serves as a reminder to all drivers and riders to be cautious of their speed, especially when encountering curved or elevated roads. Officer Lassig emphasized the importance of maintaining control and reducing speed to safely maneuver through such areas.
