Motorcycle Collision in Winton Claims Life, Injures Child [Merced County, CA]

[Merced County, California] A tragic multi-motorcycle collision on Walnut and Vine Avenues Saturday evening has left one man dead and a child critically injured. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), they received a distress call around 6:50 p.m. and quickly arrived on the scene where several individuals had been ejected from their motorcycles.

The sequence of events leading to the motorcycle collision in Winton began when Mr. Milward, accompanied by an 11-year-old passenger, was riding westbound on Walnut Avenue. Close behind was a 66-year-old motorcyclist from Delhi. As an eastbound SUV on Walnut Avenue was slowing down for a stop sign, Mr. Milward, having cleared the intersection, was suddenly struck by the 66-year-old motorcyclist who failed to halt.

The impact sent the senior motorcyclist flying, pushing Mr. Milward and his young passenger towards the halted SUV. The ensuing slide resulted in the child and the motorcycle crashing into the vehicle’s front. While the girl was airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, Mr. Milward, though moderately hurt, declined medical attention.

Tragically, the 66-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital. The SUV driver, fortunately, remained unharmed.

Authorities have confirmed that helmets were worn by all involved and ruled out alcohol or drugs as factors contributing to the crash.
