Motorcycle Accident in Fresno Linked to Suspected DUI

FRESNO, CA — A motorcyclist was hospitalized Saturday night following a motorcycle accident in Fresno involving a suspected DUI driver, according to Fresno police.

Details of the Crash

The collision occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ashlan and Bond Avenues.

Fresno Police Lt. Marcus Gray II said officers responded to reports of a vehicle-versus-motorcycle crash and found the rider lying on a nearby sidewalk when they arrived.

Officers immediately began rendering medical aid at the scene.

Authorities said the motorcyclist had been traveling eastbound on Ashlan Avenue when a vehicle allegedly made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the collision.

The rider was conscious but reportedly did not communicate with officers before being transported to a local hospital. His condition has not been publicly released.

Suspected DUI Investigation

Police detained the driver of the vehicle at the scene during the investigation.

After completing their preliminary investigation, officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

The Fresno Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

Legal Rights After a DUI Motorcycle Accident in California

Motorcycle accidents involving suspected impaired drivers can leave riders and families facing serious physical injuries, emotional trauma, and overwhelming financial burdens.

DUI and Driver Responsibility

Under California Vehicle Code §23152, it is illegal to operate a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. When a driver chooses to get behind the wheel under the influence and causes a crash, they may face both criminal prosecution and civil liability for the harm they caused.

Duty to Operate a Vehicle Safely

California law recognizes that every driver has a responsibility to use reasonable care on the road. Under California Civil Code §1714, motorists may be held liable when negligent actions—such as impaired driving or unsafe left turns—cause injuries to others.

Shared Fault Does Not Automatically Prevent Recovery

California follows a comparative negligence system under Civil Code §1431.2. This means an injured motorcyclist may still recover compensation even if multiple factors contributed to the collision. Liability is evaluated based on each party’s share of responsibility.

Injured Riders May Have the Right to Seek Compensation

Importance of a Full Investigation

A thorough investigation can help establish liability and protect the rights of injured riders and their families.
