Hanford, California — A 43-year-old man sustained major injuries following a solo motorcycle crash near Hanford on Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.
The incident began around 10 p.m. when an officer from the CHP Hanford area office attempted to stop a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle for a traffic violation.
The rider, identified as Ivan Campos-Anaya, failed to yield, prompting a brief pursuit. The CHP called off the chase after a few minutes.
Shortly after that, Campos-Anaya crashed on the dirt road extension of Excelsior Avenue, east of 4th Avenue. Investigators determined that he was traveling eastbound at an undetermined speed when he hit an ascending dirt embankment near an irrigation canal.
The impact launched the motorcycle airborne, crossing the canal and hitting a fence. Campos-Anaya was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered major injuries.
CHP officers and Kings County Sheriff’s deputies provided immediate assistance at the scene. Campos-Anaya was then airlifted to Kaweah Health Medical Center for treatment.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
