Fatal Motorcycle Accident on Highway 58 Shuts Down Roads

BUTTONWILLOW, California — A tragic incident unfolded on February 23, 2024, as California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a fatal motorcycle accident on Highway 58 at Brandt Road. The incident occurred around 2:56 p.m. local time, leaving one person dead and prompting road closures in the area.

According to authorities, a 50-year-old man was riding a black and white Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound on Hageman Road, nearing Brandt Road. The exact speed at which the motorcycle was traveling remains undetermined at this time.

Reports indicate that a truck traveling eastbound on the same road veered over the double yellow lines, colliding with the motorcycle. The impact proved fatal for the motorcyclist, whose identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

As a result of the incident, Hageman Road was temporarily shut down at Tracy Avenue to accommodate the investigative process. The westbound lanes of Highway 58 were also obstructed in the area, causing disruptions to traffic flow.

CHP has confirmed that the collision involved a Dodge Ram truck and a motorcyclist, leading to at least one fatality. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, with authorities working to determine the cause.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers present on California’s roadways and underscores the importance of exercising caution and adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic outcomes. As the investigation unfolds, further details are expected to emerge.
