Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident Kills Rider in Sun Valley

SUN VALLEY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident early Thursday morning in Sun Valley, and the suspected truck driver was later arrested after returning to the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Details of the Crash

The collision occurred around 4:20 a.m. near the intersection of Bradley Avenue and Tuxford Street.

Investigators said a white 2017 Freightliner Cascadia truck was traveling northbound on Bradley Avenue and making a left turn into a business property when the motorcyclist attempted to pass on the truck’s left side.

According to police, the motorcycle collided with the truck during the turning maneuver.

Authorities allege the truck driver continued onto the business property without stopping to render aid or exchange information, as required by California law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the motorcyclist dead. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Driver Returns and Is Arrested

During the investigation, detectives identified both the truck and the driver involved in the collision.

Police said the suspect later returned to the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

The driver was identified as 64-year-old Glendale resident Edvard Gyulnazaryan.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death and booked into the Van Nuys Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Legal Rights After a Fatal Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident

Fatal hit-and-run collisions often involve both criminal and civil liability, creating additional rights and protections for surviving family members.

Wrongful Death Claims

Under California Code of Civil Procedure §377.60, eligible family members may pursue compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of companionship, care, and emotional support

Leaving the Scene Can Create Additional Liability

California law requires drivers involved in injury collisions to stop, provide identifying information, and render reasonable assistance.

When a driver leaves the scene of a fatal crash, that conduct may become important evidence in both criminal proceedings and civil claims.

Duty to Operate Commercial Vehicles Safely

Commercial truck drivers have a responsibility to operate their vehicles safely and remain alert to surrounding traffic, including motorcycles. Under California Civil Code §1714, negligent actions that contribute to a collision may result in legal liability.

Right to a Full Investigation

Families may seek answers through:

  • Accident reconstruction analysis
  • Commercial vehicle inspections
  • Driver qualification and training records
  • Witness statements
  • Surveillance, traffic-camera, or dashcam footage

These investigations can help determine exactly what happened and whether the collision could have been prevented.
