Motorcycle Accident on El Cajon Boulevard Leaves Rider Dead

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 28-year-old motorcyclist died Friday afternoon following a motorcycle accident on El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD).

Details of the Crash

The collision occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street.

SDPD investigators said a 22-year-old woman driving a Toyota sedan westbound on El Cajon Boulevard attempted to make a left turn onto 56th Street.

At the same time, the 28-year-old motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard when the motorcycle collided with the front passenger side of the Toyota.

The rider suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

The Toyota driver sustained reportedly minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Investigation Underway

According to SDPD, both drivers reportedly had a circular green traffic signal at the time of the collision, making the circumstances surrounding right-of-way and timing a central focus of the investigation.

Police stated that alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The SDPD Traffic Division is continuing to investigate the fatal collision.

Legal Rights After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident in California

Motorcycle accidents involving left-turn collisions are among the most serious and legally complex crashes on California roads.

Wrongful Death — Code of Civil Procedure §377.60

Eligible surviving family members may pursue compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of companionship and emotional support

Negligence & Duty of Care — Civil Code §1714

Drivers making left turns must exercise caution and yield when necessary to avoid creating dangerous traffic conflicts.

Comparative Fault — Civil Code §1431.2

California follows a comparative negligence system, meaning fault may be shared among parties depending on roadway positioning, speed, visibility, and traffic conditions.

Right to a Full Investigation

Fatal intersection collisions often require:

  • Traffic signal analysis
  • Accident reconstruction
  • Witness statements
  • Vehicle damage and impact analysis
  • Surveillance or dashcam footage review

These investigations are critical in determining exactly how the crash occurred.
