Community Mourns 23-Year-Old Killed in San Marcos Motorcycle Crash
SAN MARCOS, CA — The North County community is mourning the loss of Mason Boulais, a 23-year-old Escondido resident who was killed in a motorcycle crash last week along Montiel Road.
What We Know About the Crash
The fatal crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on January 13, when Boulais was riding his motorcycle on Montiel Road in San Marcos. According to authorities and family statements, Boulais was on his way to a motorcycle shop when his motorcycle collided head-on with a vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Boulais was pronounced dead there. Law enforcement confirmed that the collision remains under investigation, and no further details on fault or contributing factors have been released.
Boulais was riding a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R at the time of the crash.

Remembering Mason Boulais
Family and friends described Boulais as deeply passionate about motorcycles and the riding community. His mother shared that Mason was a responsible rider who took safety seriously, attended riding classes, and respected the rules of the road.
“He was dedicated to learning the craft and embracing the motorcycle culture,” his mother wrote. “Mason was passionate about his journey.”
Boulais attended Orange Glen High School in Escondido, where he participated in varsity football and track and field, graduating in 2020.
A roadside memorial now stands near the crash site, adorned with candles, flowers, and photos. Community members also gathered for a celebration of life at the California Center for the Arts. A GoFundMe created to assist with funeral expenses had raised more than $13,000 as of this week.
