San Diego Music Community Mourns Artist Killed in Motorcycle Crash

SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego Rider and music scenes are mourning the loss of Tim Lowman, a longtime local artist and award-winning musician known professionally as Low Volts, who was killed early Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash in Balboa Park.

Lowman, 51, died after his motorcycle crashed with an SUV on Pershing Drive, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). The crash has left fans, fellow musicians, and the broader community grieving the sudden loss of a beloved creative voice.

Crash Details Under Investigation

Police said the collision occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the 2000 block of Pershing Drive. A passing motorist called 911 after witnessing the aftermath of the crash.

Despite a rapid response by first responders, Lowman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the collision, which occurred on a straight section of roadway. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

A Profound Loss for the Music Community

Lowman was a multi–San Diego Music Award winner, earning honors including Best New Artist and Best Blues Album. As a one-man band, he became a fixture at local venues and festivals, known for his distinctive sound, slide guitar style, and electric stage presence.

Tributes poured in across social media from fellow musicians, radio hosts, and fans who described Lowman as a kind soul, a creative force, and a pillar of the local music scene. His wife, fellow musician Dani Bell, asked the community to share memories and messages via email so they can be preserved for their young daughter in the years ahead.
