Units from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Rancho Cucamonga office, alongside crews from the Ontario Fire Department and San Bernardino County Fire Department, immediately secured the incident perimeter. Firefighters utilized specialized hydraulic rescue equipment—the Jaws of Life—to cut through twisted metal and free a driver trapped inside an overturned vehicle.
Paramedics provided advanced life support on site before transporting the extricated driver to a nearby trauma center in critical condition. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional motorists sustained minor injuries during the impact.
CHP Issues SigAlert and Hard Closure
To manage traffic and preserve vital physical evidence, CHP officers ordered hard closure of the westbound 10 Freeway at Etiwanda Avenue, issuing traffic breaks as far back as Cherry Avenue. The roadway remained blocked for several hours while investigators examined the crash site, and five evidence tow trucks impounded the damaged vehicles.
