Navy Petty Officer Killed in Imperial Beach Motorcycle Crash

Imperial Beach, California — Navy officials have confirmed the identity of the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in Imperial Beach last week.

A representative from the Navy Region Southwest stated that Maximillian “Max” Herr, a 24-year-old Second-class Petty Officer, was tragically killed in the accident. Herr was a Maritime Expeditionary Group 1 (MESG-1) member stationed in Imperial Beach.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 1 at the intersection of 13th Street and Donax Avenue. Sheriff’s officials responded to a collision involving a truck and a motorcycle, discovering an unresponsive motorcyclist at the scene. 

Despite the efforts of Imperial Beach Fire-Rescue personnel, Herr was pronounced dead on-site.

Authorities reported that the truck driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. This tragic incident underscores the critical importance of road safety and vigilance for drivers and motorcyclists.
