Motorcyclist Killed in Multiple-Vehicle Collision on Highway

Oceanside, California — A motorcyclist was killed on Coast Highway in a tragic incident involving a multiple-vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene around 1:53 p.m. following reports of the crash near West Street.

A group of five to six sport motorcycles was traveling north on the highway when one rider slowed for a vehicle preparing to turn left. Unfortunately, a second motorcyclist did not notice the first rider slowing down and rear-ended them.

Both riders were thrown into the path of oncoming traffic, where one was struck by a Toyota Yaris traveling south. The rider hit by the Yaris suffered severe head and chest injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity has not been released, pending notification of his next of kin. The second rider sustained injuries but was treated at the scene. Fortunately, the drivers of the other vehicles involved were unharmed.

The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident. Anyone with information regarding the collision must contact Officer Jose Gomez at (760) 435-4952.

The community mourns the loss, and our condolences go out to the rider’s family and friends. This incident serves as a stark reminder for all motorcyclists and drivers to remain alert and prioritize safety on the road.
