Cajon Pass, CA – A motorcyclist was heroically rescued after falling approximately 100 feet down a hillside in a motorcycle accident in Cajon Pass, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department. The incident occurred Monday afternoon, about half a mile from Cleghorn Trail, and required a specialized rescue operation in difficult terrain.
High-Risk Rescue Details
The rider sustained moderate injuries and was unable to climb back up due to the steep and rocky terrain. Because of strong wind gusts and overhead power lines, an airlift by helicopter was not feasible.
Firefighters deployed an Urban Search and Rescue team, three fire engines, and two all-terrain response vehicles (ARVs). Using a rope system with mechanical advantage, they safely hoisted the rider back to the roadway, where he received care from paramedics and was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby trauma center.
