Riverside, CA – With over 7,500 motorcyclists waving flags and displaying patriotic pride, the traditional Memorial Day motorcycle ride in Riverside, known as West Coast Thunder, returned to the streets on Monday, May 26, 2025. The commemorative event began with a formal ceremony led by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard. It was followed by a city-wide escorted ride, including symbolic stops such as the Riverside National Cemetery.
A Tradition of Unity and Remembrance
First organized in 2000 by Riverside Harley-Davidson, the event has grown into Southern California’s largest motorized tribute to the men and women who served in the Armed Forces. After a three-year pause due to the pandemic, West Coast Thunder returned in 2023 and continues to honor those who gave their lives for the country.
This year’s ride began at 7688 Indiana Avenue, where riders gathered as early as 6:00 a.m. and departed at 9:00 a.m. under police escort from the Riverside Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies. The caravan followed a route along Alessandro Boulevard, Van Buren Boulevard, and northbound Highway 215, ending in a heartfelt concert at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium featuring country band LANCO.
Safety First in Large Motorcycle Events
Events like this represent more than patriotism—they’re a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility on the road. With thousands of bikes in motion, the risk of accidents rises without proper safety protocols:
- Mandatory use of helmets and protective gear
- Pre-ride maintenance checks
- Speed control and safe following distances
- Participation only on approved, escorted routes
At Motorcyclist Attorney, we proudly support events that celebrate life and honor fallen heroes, but we also emphasize that every rider deserves to return home safely.
More Than a Ride: A Commitment to Memory
“The move to Riverside Municipal Auditorium allows us to deliver a more immersive experience focused on our core mission—honoring our fallen service members,” said Jackson Dodd, Director of the West Coast Thunder Foundation.
For over two decades, the event has raised more than $1 million for the Riverside National Cemetery Support Committee, which uses the funds to build memorials and improve facilities that honor over 250,000 veterans, police officers, firefighters, and public servants.
