San Diego County, California — A 66-year-old man from Los Angeles lost his life in a tragic motorcycle pileup in eastern San Diego County on July 28, authorities reported on Monday.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when the man, riding a 2020 Harley-Davidson Low Rider, was part of a group traveling through the Wynola area.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), he veered into the westbound lane near Springview Road and collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado towing a trailer as he headed eastbound.
The collision caused the motorcycle to overturn, leaving the rider trapped beneath his bike on the road. A second motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man from Mission Viejo, attempted to avoid the fallen rider but crashed into the pickup truck.
Despite wearing a helmet, the older motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene while being transported to Santa Ysabel for airlift.
The second rider was taken to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries. Both the truck driver and his passenger were unharmed.
CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber confirmed that drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have contributed to the crash.
