San Luis Obispo County, California – A motorcyclist died in a crash on Highway 101 in southern San Luis Obispo County on Sunday afternoon, September 8, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident occurred around 3:32 p.m. south of Fourth Street in Grover Beach.
The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old resident of Bakersfield, was traveling southbound on Highway 101 when he made an unsafe left turn. This maneuver caused his motorcycle to veer into the dirt median.
At a speed of approximately 70 miles per hour, he lost control of the vehicle, was thrown from the bike, and collided with a guardrail. The impact sent him over the guardrail and onto the northbound median.
Emergency personnel transported the motorcyclist to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The crash caused temporary traffic disruptions in both directions. Preliminary reports suggest that drugs and alcohol did not contribute to the accident.
The CHP requests witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the crash on Highway 101. Those with details are asked to contact the San Luis Obispo office at 805-594-8700.
