Auburn, California — Authorities are investigating a motorcycle crash involving a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer that occurred on Wednesday afternoon along the I-80 off-ramp in Auburn.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., the officer, who has served the CHP for over 20 years, was exiting the freeway when his motorcycle collided head-on with a Dodge Ram. The impact caused the officer to be thrown from his motorcycle.
According to a Thursday statement from CHP, the truck driver remained on the scene to assist and utilized the officer’s radio to summon help. A helicopter dispatched by CHP quickly arrived to provide aid.
The officer was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he was treated for pain. Fortunately, he was discharged with a favorable prognosis for recovery.
As a result of the incident, the southbound Highway 49 to westbound I-80 route, along with the Nevada Street off-ramp from westbound I-80, will remain closed until further notice. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area.
Motorcyclists are reminded to prioritize safety on the roads during their travels. The community wishes the injured officer a swift recovery.
