LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A tragic reminder of the dangers on California’s roads occurred this Monday afternoon on Ortega Highway (Hwy 74), when a 25-year-old motorcyclist from Huntington Beach was injured in an Ortega Highway accident and had to be airlifted to a trauma hospital after sustaining moderate injuries.
The accident happened at around 2:30 p.m., near Tenaja Truck Trail on the Lake Elsinore side. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the rider of a Kawasaki Ninja veered off the road for reasons still under investigation and crashed into an embankment. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
Crews from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and CHP arrived at the scene and coordinated a temporary closure of the highway in both directions while the air evacuation was carried out from the iconic Candy Store on Ortega Highway.
